Back up your files, unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup to enable Legacy BIOS if present. Next check BIOS Boot order for an EFI Boot Disk and if present remove it, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

Have your network driver backed up so you can get online to immediately install all of your Important and Optional Updates which should contain most drivers. Only then should you import any drivers missing in Device Manager.

mezo91, you need to install your network drivers for your card. Go to the HP site (from a different PC) and download the network drivers for your notebook model and save the files to a USB flash drive.

Once you have this, copy/extract the file you downloaded of the USB drive to your newly installed Windows 7 PC, open Device Manager and expand the "Other Devices" section in Device Manager, right click the entry called "Network Controller", select "Update Driver" and point the wizard towards the file you extracted to find the drivers. This means you will need to select "Browse My Computer for Driver Software" and specify the path to the folder.

If all you have is "setup.exe" or "install.msi" in the file you extracted or if no drivers are found in the step above, run that. Once you have your network drivers installed, you can tell Windows to search for the rest of your drivers online. By right clicking every device in the "Other Devices" section and selecting "Update Driver". If no suitable driver is found, you will need to rely on the manufacturer's website for drivers.

Look for a Setup.exe file in that same folder and run that. If there is no Setup.exe file you likely downloaded the wrong file, program or application. Google refers to a CVA file as a Compaq Diagnostics file.
