    32 v 64 ?

I have another pc that needed a hard drive. That's been replaced. I have W7 64 bit upgrade in it
as a new install. MS won't activate it. States this being an upgrade disc that it will only activate
from an OS that's already installed. Ok.. I have a Vista 32 bit disc that I could load, but I need
64 bit W7. This is home prem. Am I going to have to hunt down Vista 64 bit disc, install it, then
run this W7 64 upgrade on this new drive before MS activates it ?

Thanks for any info or advice.

Welcome ! It's a common issue, even I ran into this recently with a upgrade clean install on an old lappy.

I haven't tried it yet, but will soon. When I first loaded the files and was asked
to enter the COA, I didn't do so. So I just reformatted and installed a new load
and will see what happens. I did log the COA this time, but left the box unchecked
per that tutorial and will apply the reg fix with a restart before I enter the numbers
    again and see what happens.

I'm fighting a severe case of the flu right now and it has taken me to task, so I'll
try again once I get a decent breather going. Merry X-mas to me...

    Thanks again.
