Iam very sorry greg i want to try messing with UEFI first
THere's no reason to be sorry. THis is what we do. If you work with us there's no way you won't get it installed. It would be quicker if this wasn't the most cutting edge technology so our usual fixes that have helped thousands of others don't apply - until you decide to bypass UEFI.
So first you want to read through the steps carefully for UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums, ask back any questions you have. If someone doesn't answer them tonight Theog will be along in a few hours from Germany.
If you want to try a secondary method besides DVD, here is how to make a UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows.
both of the links are telling me to use a usb installation drive however i cant create one because i ont currently have a PC
unless there are any other methods iam going to have to bypass UEFI
Ok i have decided and i want to bypass uefi
Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,
Boot into BIOS setup to disable Secure Boot and enable Legacy BIOS if present. Next check BIOS Boot order for an EFI Boot Disk and if present remove it, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.
Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.
At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CONVERT MBR
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT
Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.
In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.
for a 500gb hard drive what partition should i create
Depends if you want to keep your data on C, how many programs and how much data you have. If unsure start with 100gb so you don't have to shrink the full 500gb later.
after typing in CONVERT MBR it said
diskpart has encountered an error the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. see the system event log for more info
