How Many GBs is Windows 7 Ultimate 64x?

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I was wondering how many GBs of storage Windows 7 takes up? I was recently given a 60GB SSD for my computer. The plan was to install Windows 7 and a few programs / games on the SSD and use my 3TB HDD for everything else. After I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and a few basic programs my SDD is practically full. Is this normal?

I installed practically all important and optional updates Windows offered. Looking back on it now I am thinking that this might have been a problem. Are there updates that take up a lot of memory that I don't need? Also is there a way to uninstall previous updates?

With all the updates and no software installed, 18-19 GBs tops. There is no reason to uninstall any updates. In fact, make sure you have them all.

You didn`t install any language packs did you ?

Hey thanks for the quick reply AddRAM. To tell you the truth I think I did install them. If they were on recommended or optional install list then I would have installed them...

Bare in mind your SSD should not be more than 80% filled for Trim to do it's job properly, so about 48Gb in your case. You will soon see a performance drop off if Trim can't work efficiently.

Thanks for the info cyclic. I never knew that. I understand what TRIM is (to an extent), but why does it need that much space to function properly?

Well get rid of them, you only need 1 language, right ?

You can remove updates by going into control panel>programs and features>view installed updates

then right click on an update to uninstall it.

Language Packs are not highlighted by default, you have to choose 1 to install it. So you probably didn`t. But you can always check.

You can rightclick each 1 in windows update and hide it so they don`t keep showing up.

They are not intended to all be installed except for the language you want. I would hide the rest although it's a PITA and could have been made easier. You paid a lot more for the trouble (didn't you?)

I don`t know, never installed any, but I`m sure they do.

All updates will list their size.

Hmmm this is interesting. So I looked at my installed updates and I couldn't find a single language pack. So I went to Windows Update and looked through all Optional Updates (hidden and showing) and I could only find six language packs that weren't. This is weird because I know that there are about twenty or so packs that you can install.

Either I installed a bunch and they are not showing up in the View Installed Updates section or I didn't install any of them and they are not showing up in Windows Update.
