Use Win7 product key for new computer Allow me to elaborate. I plan to upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro. After doing so, can I reuse the Windows 7 product key on another computer? Thanks! | My System Specs |

Hello daicon0 and welcome to Seven Forums.
It depends if the Windows 7 Ultimate is OEM or full install. If the Ultimate was installed by a computer manufacturer or if you upgraded to Ultimate by using a OEM disk, then that copy of Ultimate is forever tied to that original computer. But if the Ultimate was installed using a full install disk, it can be transferred from computer to computer as long as it's activated on only one computer at a time. | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony Vaio VPCEB47GM Laptop OS Win 7 Pro 64-bit CPU Intel i5 2.4 Ghz Memory 8GB DDR3 Graphics Card Intel HD 3000 Sound Card IDT High Definition Monitor(s) Displays 15.6 WGXA Anti-Glare LED Screen Resolution 1280x800 Hard Drives 640Gb 7200rpm Antivirus MSE Browser Opera (primary) with IE9 backup |

You can do a clean install, but you need to delete the Windows 7 install. Windows 8 EULA

Thanks for the replies! I do have windows 7 ultimate full install discs (32 & 64 bit). So, it doesn't matter whether a clean windows 8 (the current $40 digital download) is installed or not; I won't be able use the windows 7 product key exclusively on another computer. Is that right? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number custom OS windows 7 ultimate x64 CPU i7 920 Motherboard ga-x58a-ud3r Memory 6gb Graphics Card gtx 260 PSU corsair 750tx Case Haf22 Cooling noctua nh-d14 |

Hello Daicon, and welcome to Seven Forums.
If you don't have the Windows 8 activated, then you can use the Windows 7 product key.
If you do have Windows 8 activated, then you are not allowed to use the Windows 7 product key on any computer. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 & Windows 8 Enterprise CPU Intel i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz (O/C 4 Ghz) Motherboard ASRock X79 Extreme11 Memory 32 GB (8GBx4) G.SKILL DDR3 Quad PC3-19200 2400MHz Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card SB Recon 3Di Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Corsair Hydro H100 Hard Drives 256GB OCZ Vector

It's called a "System Builder" Windows 8 copy. I want to upgrade because I'm a nerd at heart; therefore, need to determine for myself as to whether or not it works for me. I decided to get the digital copy, currently $39.99, and plan to install it later.
Thanks for all the help, members! I'm marking the thread as solved based on the below. Special thanks to theog! Windows 8 EULA
