    Install question

I am running Vista 32 bit on a Striker board machine with 3 hard drives. When I install Win 7 I am going to want to first back up my current C: drive onto one of the other drives on the machine and then do a format of the durrent drive C and install Win 7 64 bit. Exactly what options on the install am I going to select to be sure that before installing drive C gets formatted?? I understand that I am going to have to reinstall all of my applications etc.

    Thanks in Advance.

during the install you simply select the partition you want to put Windows 7 on then click advanced options and "format".

    Hi,

To expand sup3 post - only format the partition you want to install 7 on - not the partition your backup is on.

After several years of different installs of many different versions of windows, I have found one of my favorite things to do is pre-format a hard drive before I do a clean install. Several ways, set it up as a slave on a current computer & format it, use a 3rd party format program on a CD or DVD on a newly built computer. But a really neat way is the the USB Tri-Head adapter. It plugs in a USB port, has connections for IDE (laptop or desktop HD) & a Sata connector. You just need a power source for the IDE & Sata desktop HD's. Plug into your current computer. It finds the HD. Use Disk Management & locate the HD & format it. Then it is ready to go with the fewest problems when you do your new clean install
