freeze during first boot while installing As title says, after a few seconds with a flashy windows logo the computer freezes. I also tried to boot it up in safe mode and it stopped loading at disk.sys. So i read around the forum a little and found some tips like unplugging secondary monitors, extra hard drives and ram chips but still, the installation stops at disk.sys. any ideas?

Am I correct in seeing in your system specs that you have Win XP installed and you are trying to install Windows 7? If so, how are you installing Windows 7? From boot with teh DVD installed and doing a clean install vs an upgrade, or are you doing the upgrade? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Win 7 Ultimate x64 & x86 CPU AMD Anthalon 64 XT 6000+ 3.0Ghz Motherboard Asus M2N-eE Memory 4 GB Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT |

I have tried a clean install while in windows xp from both the DVD and the ISO (even tested with ISO and no DVD drive attached). I have also tried to unplug my windows xp hard drive and only having a single empty one. And no, I have not tried upgrade since I want to keep xp for dual boot. But the fact that it stops on disk.sys every time I try to install it makes me sad
I have tried the compability program that windows have and the only thing that could cause problems was my anti virus program and daemon tools which shouldn't have any effect on a clean install, most certainly not with the hard drive detached Oo
I have also tried 3 different ISOs, the last one is the same as a friend used and it works on his computer. As I said earlier, all attempts stops at disk.sys. Any idea? | My System Specs | | OS XP CPU Intel Core Duo E6850 3ghz Motherboard Asus P5N32-E SLI Memory 2x 1gb Kingston Graphics Card Nvidia GF 8800 gts 640mb Sound Card built-in-mb Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Syncmaster 2233 Hard Drives WD 150gb 10k rpm |

Hi there
sometimes it doesn't actually freeze but can take as much as 10 - 15 mins before the setup continues -- don't ask me why but this regularly occurs -- I've done numerous installs with all sorts of Windows 7 versions and this is by no means a rare occurrence.
Leave the machine running for 15 mins --if nothing has happened after that time then you probably DO have a problem.
The computer will appear to be doing nothing -- no Disk or DVD / CD lights are on / blinking etc.
Also since you are dual booting XP make sure you haven't changed the BIOS from AHCI to IDE (or vice versa) and DON'T have any USB disk / sticks plugged in as some newer BIOSES will search these first for a boot rec and fail when it can't find any.
Cheers

Then at step 9
The installation of Windows 7 will now begin.
NOTE: During the installation process, your screen may flash and computer will restart a few times. <-- its after the first reboot, it always stops at disk.sys
Found this picture in one of the tutotials http://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...-command-3.jpg I've never seen classpnp.sys because it stops on disk.sys

I also hear the dvd drive stop spinning and goes silent when it comes to disk.sys. Did I mention it stops at disk.sys? Guess ill try again and keep the disk-o-system running while sleeping off some diskrage | My System Specs | | OS XP CPU Intel Core Duo E6850 3ghz Motherboard Asus P5N32-E SLI Memory 2x 1gb Kingston Graphics Card Nvidia GF 8800 gts 640mb Sound Card built-in-mb Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Syncmaster 2233 Hard Drives WD 150gb 10k rpm |

Hi Perry.
I ran into another problem. There were no harddrives showing up (i got a wd 150gb raptor s-ata drive), so I had to get some drivers. I've tried with them from the wd homepage, but without luck. And since it takes around 1 to 6 hours to get past that first bootscreen duing install I havent done so many attempts. I only start the install when I go to sleep btw | My System Specs | | OS XP CPU Intel Core Duo E6850 3ghz Motherboard Asus P5N32-E SLI Memory 2x 1gb Kingston Graphics Card Nvidia GF 8800 gts 640mb Sound Card built-in-mb Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Syncmaster 2233 Hard Drives WD 150gb 10k rpm freeze during first boot while installing problems?
