OK, so if I continue extracting the created ISO and then replace install.wim with the one I just deleted - will that work?

Will continue tomorrow as its 3 am here.

May start over so should I use Update 7v3?

    Yes.

If you decide to start over, use v3.

It might be worth looking at the list of superseded ones ( in the first post ) and deleting them from your downloaded updates. They are just a waste of space. Also a waste of time integrating them.

Because you already have a bootable installation usb - after you have done the updating, you don't need to make an iso.

You can just copy the updated install.wim from "C:\GRMCULXFRER_EN_DVD\sources" into the sources folder on your usb stick, replacing your original install.wim

Fascinating thread. Need to find some time to test this, towards end of this week it should be possible...

Alright I'm in the test install partition now, with 12 updates taking 10 minutes total - including 4 drivers and a choice of IE9 or 10 so I guess the slipstreamed 10 didn't take - or is IE10 even offered for Win7?

One question: Why is "Yandex" search page loaded as home page when IE8 starts up, along with the Google search bar already preselected? I know this wasn't done by MS. Where/how was the customization slipped in?

    Strange, it works for me.

Still 12 updates ain't bad. Did you run the one on the C drive and then nf4.5 slim installer ?

If you do that and then restart - you won't be offered nf4.0.

There is no point including MSRT or windows defender as they update so often. It will offer a couple of other thigs you don't want like Bing Desktop and silverlight as well. Just hide them.

Yandex is the most popular after google ( not including Baidu - which is Chinese ).

Yes, it is a great relief not to spend an hour+ updating.

I looked for NF4.5 in C but it wasn't there. I'll just copy the slimstaller over. Was another Update supposed be in C too?

Are there any other unadvertised customizations of Win7 added in?

It would be a great service to be able to link pure MS versions but how would it be done, and would John consider allowing it as he did DR links?

See if you can spot them

Yes, if found Windows6.1-KB2533552-x64.msu will be copied to your image.

No, people will have to make their own - that is the point of it.

I may be able to automate the downloading - having a look at it now.

I can't keep updating the lists, tho.

I see the convenient additions to rightclick context menu. I will use these but would hesitate to use it as an installer for others since it's not pure Win7.

It also seems a little spunkier. I'd like to see how programs change that, so I'm going to go ahead and set it up, maybe end up replacing the other 7 on this test machine.

I see your point about letting others make their own. We get asked regularly about slipstreaming Updates since SP1 and I've only been able to suggest taking a look at 7Lite or VLite. Do either of those work for this too? It's been since beta since I did slipstreaming experiments.

    7Lite or VLite

    I wouldn't recommend them.

Better to update the way you did.

The point of it is a kind of sp2 - not just the updates, also a few small extra niceties added.

It is pure - just reg entries for context menu, no restart on bsod etc. the normal things. No added software.
