Siw, a bit OT: what program you use to capture images for deployment?

    There are several.

I think gimagex is probably the easiest for a tutorial.

It can be run from 7/8 or 7/8 pe easily.

From 8 you could use dism to capture, but it means commands.

The simpler the better, need to collect various methods for a tut. GimageX looks promising, I need to get to know it.

    Thanks.

Just used the latest updates from April 9th from download posted on Windows Updates Downloader (WUD) Update Files (ULs)

Afterwards only KB2718704 and KB2533552, Defender and Malicious Software Tool updates were needed, in addition to some drivers that came in.

I think I'll wait til the night before reinstalls to update the flash stick installer, thanks to the this automation you've provided Si. It saves at least an hour on each install.

Yes, Steven does a great job the lists up to date.

Slight snag, there are about 30 in there which have been superseded.

Not a big deal, just a waste of time putting them in, and a bit of disk space doing nothing.

If you have some non empty mount folders, just run dism /cleanup-wim

This step makes no sense to me.

    3. Extract this onto C. UPDATE7v4.zip
Do you mean that the contents of the Windows Updates Downloader program need, after the WUD has run, to be added to the Update7v4 zip archive?

No just the content of the zip archive, rightclick and extract it to C:

When you run it's unzipped .exe it will ask for the location of the Updates you've prepared with the Downloader, so know their location or tell the Downloader to place them also in C:

I've followed this thread avidly from Pg1 and I'm impressed by the informative interchanges between all involved. My question, Greg, will the option to use this procedure be linked to in your equally informative post "Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7"?
