How do I dual boot XP HD and a WIN7 HD?

I have one pc with an XP HD which is currently disconnected. The PC has a separate HD running WIN7 which is in daily use. How do I fix this so I can plug in the XP HD and dual boot to either HD and use that OS on it's own HD? Found lots of advice on how to partition and install both XP and WIN7 on single HD, but have found nothing booting to two HDs containing two OSs.

Would this then allow me to add a 3rd HD with Ubuntu (thinking about it) later? and boot to it?

I'm comfortable installing HDs and OS but far from knowing what I may need to know to do this one as I don't fully understand how dual boot works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Plug back in the XP HD making sure Win7 HD remains set first to boot in BIOS setup.

Then you can boot the XP HD when needed using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key at boot to trigger it's to boot, otherwise the Win7 HD will boot on its own.

If this is not to your liking, install to Win7 EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required)
to add XP on the Add OS tab, by Name, Type and drive letter. Save and reboot to Windows Dual Boot menu.
