Upgrading to Windows 7 64bit from Vista 32bit

Hello everyone! I am new to this so please bear with me. I bought windows 7 from newegg, however, I did not know it was Windows 7 OEM System Builders Pack. I am upgrading my motherboard from ASUS M3A78-CM to ASUS M5A78L-MLX Plus before I install windows. I can't replace my hard drive because one of the screws is stuck so I am installing windows 7 on my windows vista hard drive. Do i need to wipe my hard drive before I upgrade my motherboard and install Windows 7? Or can I reformat it while installing Windows 7?

    Welcome to the forum!

    Take your Pick :)
    - If you boot with the OEM disk it will force a clean install anyhow, but you'll have the option of preserving the current installation in a folder inside the new install (so you can transfer data out of it before deletion).

You'll also have the option to format the drive before installing Windows 7 clean.

I have already backed up the data I wanted. So I just put the disk in, install my motherboard, go to the bios and boot from the dvd and I should be good?

You could backup the data from the installation disc . Click on the Repair you computer click on Windows 7 if found and click on Next then click on Command Prompt in the System Recovery window . Inside the command prompt type

    Code:
     notepad.exe
Inside notepad click on File choose open and copy and paste the items you need from there to an external
    device .

    Where is the link tutorial

Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Yes, boot the Win7 DVD to Clean Install Windows 7, deleting all partitions and creating new as you please in Steps 6/7.

Other tips to get a perfect install in the Reinstall OEM tutorial in my signature below.

If you didn't want OEM which locks to the mobo permanently, you qualify for Upgrade which can migrate and should be able to exchange it if you didn't open the package. Call NewEgg.

If you apply the OEM disc, make sure you do it after you upgraded your mobo. Else you might get activation problems because the OEM version is tied to the first mobo to which you install.

Just use a drill and drill right through the screw about 3/8" and pop the screw head off. You should be able to remove the hard drive after that.
