Accidentally did custom install instead of repair install

    What is the actual problem ? You can't burn CDs ? Does the cd drive show up inside Computer?

    The cd drive shows up, but it is not working when I put in a cd. It starts to run and then stop, then tries to kick on again repeatably. The side light will blink. It's like it tries to read but doesn't have the capability to.

    In the device manager does it have a yellow circle ? If so Try this

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} in the right side under name you will find either UpperFilters or LowerFilters value delete them close registry and restart

    I don't see a yellow circle. Should I just download everything from the HP site so I know all everything is on my computer?

    What cd burning software do you have ? See if the drive could read a DVD .
