repairing Windows 7 Professional without a disk - error message.

Can anyone assist me please. I am trying to repair Windows 7 professional using the instructions in the article
How to Do a Repair Install to Fix Windows 7 ( Repair Install)

All works well until I select the upgrade option. I then get a message which says "Windows 7 Professional cannot upgrade to Windows 7 professional".

It then offers the option to do a 'clean install' which I don't want to do as will then need to copy everythnig off and reinstall all my programs.

My PC originally came with Windows Home Premium which I then upgraded legitimately to Windows Professional using the online upgrade option. I have since created a system disk by downloading the ISO file.

If you can help I'd be grateful.

    Thanks

    Gary

Make sure you have Win7 SP1 installed and all other Updates are installed.

If this fails you may need to reinstall Premium to Anytime Upgrade it to Professional. However this time after it's completed save a Win7 backup image so that you never have to do the double-reinstall again.

All of the latest official installers along with tools and tips to get a perfect install are in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Thanks Greg. Can I reinstall Windows Home Premium without needing to wipe all my data and programs? That's what I'm trying to avoid doing as it takes so long to reinstall everything after a clean install.

    Thanks

    No you can not.

What`s wrong with windows, why the repair install.

    Run a system file check

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Read over the steps I gave your for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to compare with how you did it. If you didn't follow the steps to get a perfect install then I would do it now, save a Win7 backup image after its set up so you never have to reinstall again.
