Well the thing is the hard drive isn't for me it's going in another computer, so I don't know if VMware is going to work out?

You can of course have the VMware folder on your internal disk and run XP from there. You only need the space for XP on that drive (plus a bit for VMware).

Is XP going to boot normally without having VMware popping up here and there or is that ou tof the question?

You have to start XP (the guest system) from the VMware control panel. But then you do not see VMware any more except for the control dock on the top which you can hide.

Have a look at this demo and you will get the idea. VMware Player - a Windows 8 Demo

I don't think that option will work for me, as well Greg just a few questions I don't really understand the slipstream, I guess it's because I have never done it before but the tutorial that you have provided I can't seem to find any of the stuff that theog has, such as Fastrak 376 and I can't seem to find it.

As well the hard drive in question isn't Sata I don't believe.

If it's an IDE HD then XP with SP3 might have the drivers - try it. You may need to set SATA controller to IDE.

If it's SATA you'll likely need to slipstream the drivers. What is the exact problem with SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD? I would ask for author's help in the tutorial comments.

If you can find a working floppy drive you can also use that method to supply SATA Drivers - Load in Windows XP Setup on Dual Boot

Yes, if AHCI install fails set SATA controller to IDE.

Yes the service pack 3 did not work, still a blue screen, does the jumper block position matter? As well I am having trouble with the guide because I don't know where the drivers are found or which I am using for it.

As well this was a Dell computer hard drive, it got a virus and I lost access to it,

I'd run the Dell Diagnostics from its partition to check the hardware: Dell Diagnostics Utility - How to Run the

Then if it won't run I'd wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command to see if that helps, and to get rid of the virus completely.

If you want to preserved Dell Diagnostics OEM partition then you can do a partition-specfic wipe using this: Partition Wizard Use the Bootable CD

If not the drivers you want are the Dell SATA controller drivers, either SATA or AHCI. Sometimes these are in the chipset, others they are available in standalone installers. Check Dell's Downloads webpage for your tag number.
