Port 3 is meant for hard drives. The Optical Drive is on side where the battery is . Most of the MSI GT70s come with a mSATA SuperRAID SSD's . That is what I am reading.

Cashcate you could get the Killer Ethernet PXE boot feature turned off in the BIOS you don't that unless you are installing Windows from a network server.

Port 3 was for the OD, perchance? It may be that it should never have housed an SSD to begin with.

PORT 4 had my original HHD installed. This is where the SSD works with no problems.
PORT 3 - I believe that`s where the OD is installed don`t know for sure.

When i bought the laptop the HDD was placed in PORT 4. PORT 1 was empty. I want the SSD installed in PORT 1 because that`s where i can get SATA 3 speed.

I also opened a thread on MSI forums ... no answer so far. Some ppl with same laptop are using a SSD installed in PORT 1 and others have same problem like me.

I don`t understand why is not working with that port.

Yes when i bought this laptop there were 3 versions 0NC, 0ND and 0NE.
0NC was the only model without mSATA SuperRAID.

No, i can`t disable that feature. All i can do is to hide that text from the screen

As you can see in the picture from BIOS the OD is in PORT 2 (P2)

What's the exact problem with installing SSD to Port 1? Someone here should be able to help you with that.

Are you not getting the speeds you want in Port 4 which you say works without problem? Is there any reason then that you can't replace the HD with SSD or did you want to keep the HD?

Did you put the SATA Configuration to AHCI ? <---Might be a dumb question

@gregrocker:

1. The problem is that i don`t get SATA 3 speed and what i do get : lot of errors(laptop don`t see the SSD or when it does see the SSD, windows doesn`t boot or i get a black screen when it`s about to boot).
2. Nope, PORT 4 have only SATA 2 speed.
3. I want to replace the HDD witht he SSD and use the SSD with SATA 3 speed from port 1.

@VistaKing:

Yes, AHCI selected. Someone said that he managed to get it done with IDE or RAID. Does this makes any difference in speed ?

RAID is for 2 hard drives working as 1.

RAID 0 is for speed but if one drive fails you're looking into purchasing 2 new drives . No redundancy

I know but the guy who managed to get his SSD work on PORT 1 without errors but with SATA 2 not 3 used IDE and also RAID even if he only had 1 SSD in his laptop.

RAID is for 2 HARD DRIVES or more.

IDE is an old hard drive and OD interface . The mechanical hard drive will work fine on the IDE setup inside the BIOS. For an SSD I would rather go with a AHCI . If your Optical Device is IDE then your SATA configuration would be IDE.

AHCI is better performance for the SSD. You could always try to install Windows 7 under the IDE for SATA configuration then manually change it to ACHI after the installation.

AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 / Vista
