    SSD won`t boot (black screen) during Windows 7 installation


    Hi,

    Just got a brand new Intel 520 240GB SSD and i can`t install Windows 7 on it.

    - The SSD doesn`t need any drivers to be loaded during installation.
    - AHCI is enabled in BIOS.
    - Everything works great until the first restart during Windows install. After restart Windows install is starting from the beginning again and again at every restart.
    - If i restart without the DVD inserted then a strange thing happens. MSI logo appears and when Windows is about to boot, nothing happens. The screen remains black. Windows logo does not appear.

    BIOS is updated. SSD is inserted in SATA3 port. (Didn`t tried SATA2). SSD works great as i used it as a second disk with my old HDD. Intel SSD Toolbox says no error. All diagnostics are perfect.

    Now i would like to ask you guys few things:

    1. I can see the SSD inside Win setup. I can create/delete partitions. I`ve found on internet Intel AHCI drivers. If i load these drivers, does this makes any difference ? Once again i can see the SSD during Win setup without loading them.

    2. If i use the SSD on SATA2 and let`s say i manage to install Win 7, can i change it to SATA3 port after ?

    3. I think i saw somewhere on internet that this could be a corrupt partition. If i secure erase the SSD with Intel Toolbox and make the partitions again, will this solve the corrupt partition problem ?

    Not a driver issue! WinPE can see it. Eject DVD. Disconnect SSD from system (temporary) (just detach sata cable). Any other message such as "insert boot disk"? This proves it was actually trying to boot from SSD when SSD was attached to system.

    Also try to boot to advanced boot options. Advanced Boot Options

    I`m not sure i understand that. Do you want to disconnect the SSD when the black screen occurs or immediately after i press the power button to turn on the laptop ?

    Set SSD first to boot in BIOS setup, unplug all other HD's and peripherals. Trigger DVD to boot using BIOS Boot Menu key.

    At reboots do not trigger DVD and it should not boot itself.

    If this fails use the flash stick installer provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
    with SSD also set first to boot, use BIOS Boot menu key to boot stick. Follow steps in blue link to get and keep a perfect install.

    I did what you said. SSD as first to boot. F11 for boot menu ... selected DVD ... started Win setup ... first setup auto restart ... Black Screen after MSI logo.

    This laptop had Win 7 Home Premium(Spanish) installed. I have a Win 7 Ultimate(English) genuine copy and i want to use this one as i hate to use windows in other languages.

    Same procedure with English or Spanish edition. Where you at right now ? Did you follow the OEM Clean Install instructions ?

    Unless you plan to buy an expensive copy of Ultimate and actually need the few extra expensive features in it, I would install the English version of Home Premium which you already own and use the same Product Key to activate it. Compare Windows 7 Editions - Windows 7 Forums

    disconnect SSD when pc is power off. What happens now if you boot (no DVD inserted)?

    Also i had some free time and found out some things. I installed the SSD in my other port .. PORT 4 SATA 2. Everything is normal ... no problem at all, no errors. Windows installed drivers everything ...

    From what i can see the problem is the port. Compatibility issues or the adapter have problems. When the SSD is in PORT 1 SATA 3 i get a lot of errors. For example many times the laptop does not see the SSD. When the laptop see the SDD the windows is not booting. All i get is Starting Windows (no logo) or a Black Screen.

    So the SSD works perfect with 0 problems in PORT 4 SATA 2. My problem starts when the SSD is in port 1 SATA 3.

    Should i buy a new adapter for PORT 1 SATA 3 ? Or this could be a problem from motherboard ?

    Sometimes it does take finding the correct SATA port for an SSD to function best. THis may be it.

    However what is that port 4 is intended for? It isn't exactly clear but it doesn't look like it opens to the outside so is it an actual HD bay?

    Port 3 was for the OD, perchance? It may be that it should never have housed an SSD to begin with.
