How to Copy ALL setting from Old PC to New PC

Hi

I have a new PC that will eventually replace an old PC. It is in a network. I am having so much trouble trying to get the New PC onto the network, I have thought of another way to skin the cat.

If I copy ALL set-ups and configurations from Old PC to New PC… will that work AND HOW do you do it???

No it won't work. What is the problem with connecting? Have you found your network in the bottom right system tray, clicking the network icon? If not rightclick to Troubleshoot.

Next, have you joined the Homegroup in Control Panel? Once you do this with each PC you want to network, you only need to rightclick each folder you want to share on the HomeGroup PC's, select Share.

Hi Greg,

Thank you for answering me.

I have done all that. I can see ALL the PC's on the network map. But I cannot access the new-PC. I run the diagnostics and it keeps mentioning connection problems. I have shared the c-drive. I have no idea what I have missed. I have even downloaded the MS-fixes - no good. I even got a man in.... he was useless, I live in the bush... so this is why I am here. The new PC can print, it can access the internet, so I do not think it is a problem with the router.

Is this factory preinstalled Win7 which is a corrupt install to begin with? If so I'd strongly consider doing a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 without the bloatware that corrupts Win7's features.

I'd also try sharing the related User folders rather than C which is not advisable.

I have already sent the PC back 2 times. The only thing it has aside from the OS, is Acrobate and Teamviewer. Is a re-install necessary??

It depends on whether it has the factory preinstall which is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have.

I provided you with a tutorial to get the best possible install without the corrupting factory bloatware which throttles Win7 native performance and causes issues like you're experiencing: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

What happens when you share the Documents folder with HomeGroup, reboot all PC's and then check another PC's Homegroup for Documents on the problem PC.

Greg,

Yes I read the tutorial. I got a little lost with steps 1 & 2. I do not have a USB any larger then 1G and I do not understand ISO files and I do not have any burnable DVD's and not really sure how to do these.

I have the windows disc. But I did download a 198GB file that I do not know what to do with. I tried to download it on my main machine but it did not happen, so I thought (just try) the other machine and it did... now I cannot get it off - it is music I actually paid for...yes I am one of the few who actually pay for music.

??
