Windows Update wants to update after installing 15.49_nforce_winvista_

Windows 7 showed a notification that there was a problem in the Action Center. It said that there was a driver update and prompted me to download "15.49_nforce_winvista_win7_64bit_international_whql

Now immediately after installing Windows Update wants to update my display driver and four other NVidia drivers.... Any idea what's going on?

How do I tell if 15.49 is the latest and greatest update for my chipset?

    My INfo:

    Win 7 Home Premium SP1
    64 bit version

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide...

You can check with HP site for your make/model and see what's the latest driver that they have listed. You can go to Nvidia site and use the auto detect or search manually for the latest driver.

If WIn7 says it wants those chipset drivers then you should install them.

It will set a restore point in the rare chance (about 1 in a million) that a WIndows Update driver malfunctions. You can then use F8, your Win7 disk or Repair CD to restore via System Recovery Options

Have you been installing Important and Optional Windows Updates all along? This is how Win7 keeps itself secure and performance running perfectly.

I always go directly to nvidia.com for the video drivers.

Brian, the problem is that an OEM often will modify the drivers, and MS may modify them even more for Win7 - or at least vets the ones it wants for Win7 to load into the installer or push through Updates.

The best rule of thumb is not to change out any drivers given by Win7 installer or Updates unless performance problems point to them. If any are missing after install and all Updates are completed, import them from the OEM's Support Downloads webpage.

Lappys nearly always use a specially crafted graphics and chipset driver.

    But this is a desktop.

I would do a clean install with these and see if you still get update notifications.

And remember, you can always hide updates.

Oops, you're right Brian. Still excited over Kenseth's win.
