Factory Restore does not work and Windows 7 will not boot

I'm at the end of my rope with this one. I have a Gateway NV59 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. Or perhaps I should say I had. Anyway a couple weeks ago I got a virus and bad software so I went to reset it to factory settings. After going through the whole process Windows will try to start up and then I get an error that the installation can't be completed and that I need to restart the installation. If I click ok, the computer restarts and goes back to the same error message. So I ordered the System Disc and Recovery Discs from Gateway. I have run them at least 15 times and it will go through the entire Restore process using Gateway Recovery Management software and then Windows tries to start, I get a message that windows is installing devices, etc and then the same error message. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Hi wlindseytx,

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Have you run diagnostics on the hard-drive of the system to ensure its not a hard-drive failure?

Also, let us know if its is an image disc or windows re-installation disc that you are using.

Please share the exact error message you receive while trying to install so we can provide you with more information on solving this issue.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

You can order OEM Recovery disks from your OEM manufacturer's website.
Most OEM's will ship Recovery DVD's for FREE, (may be a postage fee)

You can Order Acer recovery disks from here:
Acer | Recovery Media
Check in Accessories
or check the main web site.

The Factory Preinstall which Recovery resets is a corrupt install of Win7 so I would strongly consider getting the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything needed is provided in the blue link to get a perfect install without the smothering factory bloatware.

If you want the Factory install then wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command from the WIn7 DVD (provided in first tutorial) or System Repair Disk before trying to run the Recovery disks again.

First, thanks for the input. Let me see if I can cover everything.

1. No, I have not run a check on the hard drive. I can't get windows to load so how would I check the hard drive for errors?

2. The discs I'm using are the ones that I ordered directly from Gateway last week. Four discs total. One System Disc, Two Recovery Discs and a Language Disc.

3. The exact error message comes up while the screen says Setup is starting services and in the window it says, "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation. And the only option is to click Ok. When I do, the computer restarts, Windows starts to load, it says that Setup is starting services and then the same error message.

4. I have tried to clean install Windows 7 from the download from Digital River but I can't get the computer to boot from the disc. Even though I have CD/DVD selected as first boot option, it doesn't appear to be working.

5. Yes I made recovery discs when I got the laptop a few months ago. Those didn't work so I ordered the four discs from Gateway and those haven't worked either.

What do I do next. PLEASE help. Thanks!

Try these steps. Put the install DVD back in and at this screen:

Press F10 to bring up a command prompt.
Go to Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command and start at Step 3.
When done, see step 11 to create a partition.
After that's all done, type Exit and resume the install. NOTE: the Clean all command will be lengthy if you choose it.
