Windows 7: Win 7 ISO download hangs

Pauly:

I should have enough disk space, see HDD report. ACER-PC HDD.txt

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Greg: Thanks. I've tried the various options, just not working for me. So instead of spending more time trying to download the ISO, wouldn't it be easier to just buy a Win 7 CD and maybe make an ISO flash drive, or just boot from the CD?

I don't know how long it takes to boot/install Win 7 from a CD, as opposed to making a USB bootable flash drive from the CD? Taking into consideration I never did this before.

So simple and more time consuming may benefit me, as opposed to using the CD to USB flash install process?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

New issue: A few persons are telling me that downloading a ISO off the Internet is illegal...?

That unless I am a student, it is illegal to download the Digital River ISO's...?

So I see here on this and other forums threads discussing these ISO downloads, so are these few persons blowing smoke or what?

Thanks, currently Vista

When you referenced MSDN Subscriber downloads it gave the impression you have a subscription you were using for this install.

If not and the licensed OS on the PC is Vista then you do need to buy an Upgrade copy of Win7 anyway so you might as well use the disk which comes with it.

Depending on your hardware specs . Installing Windows 7 from the DVD could go from 25-45 mins and from a USB 15-20 . The digital river iso are legit and isn't illegal for download .

If you want to go and purchase a Windows 7 DVD go to Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More! .

R. They have the downloads there, but when you click on download it asks if you have a subscription? Which I don't have and from what I saw it is quite expensive and defeats the purpose. So not sure if the site is for IT professionals only, or what?

R. Keep in mind I am going from 32 to 64 bit OS. I presume I can clean install with either a OEM or upgrade disk, yes?

And if I choose to, I can use the CD to USB drive install process. But seems like more steps than the straight boot from the CD, yes?

Thanks again, currently on Vista.

You qualify for Upgrade version which can migrate, but not for OEM which is for builders and cannot.

The 64 bit disk should come with any retail package. Buy only from a reputable major retailer. You can extract the ISO from disk if need be using ImgBurn and then write to flash stick using UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive

R. See my Speecy report above.

R. That's not too bad.

The digital river iso are legit and isn't illegal for download.

R. That's what it appears to me. I would presume correctly that if the Digital River [DR] ISO downloads were illegal, whether you are a student or not, I'm sure MS would shut the site down. DR has a legal license/agreement with MS to distribute their products. So not sure what these few persons are complaining about?

If you download the ISO from DR and then go to the MS store to purchase a product key, does MS ask if you are a student? If not, they won't sell you a product key at retail prices [$200]? I haven't read anything to that effect yet? Students might get a MS discount on the retail price with verifiable proof.

According to these few persons: If you are not a student, but download the same ISO, from the same DR site, then its illegal to download it...? And if I did I would be an unworthy character. I can understand if your not a student, you would be ineligible for the student discount. But if you are not a student and download the ISO and pay full retail, that's illegal, egads lad I'm a little confused there? What MS doesn't want your mo-money?

But at any rate legit or not, I can't download it anyway?

R. Thanks, or Amazon.

Don't think Microsoft sells just a Product Key for Windows 7 . The Retail versions and the System Builders DVD both come with a key .

:ADDED:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store?...words=Windws+7

You could produce from Microsoft either Full edition or Upgrade edition .

R. Are you saying here that I couldn't purchase and do a clean install of the cheaper OEM version? If not, why not?

Thanks, still Vista

OEM strictness: You need to be a builder reselling the OS on one of your builds.

Upgrade version can be found for about the same price, plus it migrates endlessly.

I purchased the Win 7 upgrade version, but the add description doesn't mention the SP1 update. How do I tell if this item has the SP1 update included on the CD disk?

The item hasn't shipped yet, so if I can find out before it ships, then maybe I can get a Win 7 that includes the latest SP1 updates.

Thanks.
