    Yes, I have a photo of that sticker. It says Windows 7 Home Prem OA, Asus and then the product key. Is that what you mean?

    Yes, but is it media refresh or "old" SP1? According to gregrocker, it seems I'd want the "media refresh" version of the ISO.

    Oh, I just took a photo of the sticker from under my laptop because it's easier to see the product key when I'm going to do the reinstall instead of digging under the computer. It's a bit heavy for a laptop.

    Read Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows since most of the questions you're worrying about are answered in there. It compiles what we've learned after helping thousands of users get perfect reinstalls here without any failures.

    Ask back as many questions as you need.

    There's no need to rush into it as preparing is the biggest part of it.

    No joke! It's so many steps to prep, I just want to...not to do it. But I have to. Thanks, greg!

    ETA: Belarc is the best thing, ever! It just gave me a complete rundown of my laptop's specs, but I do see some worrisome things on there:

    1. It says the Administrator Account is disabled? HOW? I'm the only user of this computer and I never changed anything...

    2. Under "Networks Drives" it states none discovered. Is that why I can't connect via wireless since this entire mess began last week? But where did the drive go??

    3. There are a few "critical" Windows updates missing, NBD.

    4. The Security Benchmark Score is SUPER low: 0.63 of 10 A lot of seems to be related to password age, etc. I don't even understand half of it, or how important it really is.

    I haven't clean-installed my laptop yet. I've been very sick so...today was my first chance to go to Best Buy and get an 8 GB flash drive AND a set of 4.7GB, 16x, 120 minute DVD+R's. One of the guys from the Geek Squad kept trying to tell me I don't need both, but I wanted to be on the safe side.

    So, any tips before I get this going?

    ISO on DVD/R or on flash drive? Or...any recommendations?

    I just inserted a single (1) DVD/R into my computer and followed these steps to creating a recovery disc. It took under 3 minutes. Is that normal?? I've read some people saying it took them 1.5 hours.

    How do I know if it's really working? Here are the files/folders that are on my DVD/R Recovery disc:

    1. boot: bcd (256 KB); boot.sdi (3,096 KB); bootfix.bin (1 KB)
    2. sources: boot.wim (164,445 KB)
    3. boot mgr (375 KB)

    Do these look right?

    One more question, for now: Am I supposed to burn each separate component of the clean install on a separate DVD/R?

    1. ISO
    2. Windows 7 Backup Image
    3. Recovery Disk
    4. Drivers

    Or can they all go on the same DVD/R? (if that's even possible)

    The Backup Image is only a secondary backup to the Recovery disks and is optional. It should go on another or External HD since it will take too many DVD's and won't fit on a flash stick. It will be approximately the size that's used on C now. So I would skip it if you don't have an external or another HD. These are, after all, backups of the corrupt factory preinstall that you really wouldn't want to go back to.

    You can burn the ISO to DVD using the tool provided in tutorial. Use the flash stick for the other backups mentioned in the tutorial - the first half is making sure you have everything needed backed up.

    Finally put your wireless or ethernet driver on the flash stick so if Win7 installer doesn't provide it during install you can install it first to get online and do all rounds of Important and Optional Updates. Remember to first enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3).

    Hi gregrocker.

    I just ran the Uniblue driver scanner and right off, it tells me 32 drivers are out of date. I've only ever updated the drivers specifically from the Asus support site, and only for my particular model. Anyhow, since my wireless has stopped working since my computer caught the virus, I decided to at least try to update that and see if it works, but Uniblue pops up with "purchase software". I don't want to purchase anything else for this update right now, so how else can I use Uniblue to help me with this clean install?

    Another question: So I burn the ISO to a separate disk and it's there in case the reboot doesn't work?

    I think I'm confused as to how many disks I will need, how to get my drivers going again and where to burn them before I reinstall everything, and I need to sort this out before I do the clean install.

    Also, did you happen to look at my post about the Recovery disc and how quickly it burnt to the DVD/R? Is that normal and do the files look about right?

    Also, when I go to the official Asus support site for my specific model, it gives me the following options under Network adapter:

    Version: V8.0.0.238
