Just to clear things up in my head....

I've ordered the upgrade to Win7....and I have an OEM version of Vista I used when I built this machine.
    I'm currently running the RC...

But....I'm installing a new drive for my OS at the same time as the Win7 install....(SSD)

Will I need to install Vista first? Or is there a way to go directly to Win7...

(As I understand it, the old, "put in your old copy of windows" thing doesn't work anymore like it did in the 95 and XP era)

I still have one question though that hasn't been completely answered..
If i reinstalled the easy way, and just used an illegal, self-activating copy of vista to make it quicker, would that non-genuine key be linked to my new copy of 7?
Often times, non-genuine versions of windows are detected in service packs/updates, so I don't want my genuine windows 7 license to be deactivated because of the fake vista one. I want to be 100% sure that they won't interfere with one another.

a non-genuine key should not allow you to upgrade in the first place.

    Then do the upgrade legally.

Be 100% sure of this - we will not tolerate piracy here. Not even the discussion of how to use it to your advantage.
