Just a thought Brian maybe you could do something with the Partition Wizard to "manipulate" your partitions.

Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.

Having said that the others are far more capable of advising you what to do and I don't know if my suggestion would fit in with what they have posted .

Re the confusion earlier that was just me jumping to the assumption that you had a new drive you were trying to partition for an OS

One of the members of our church came round and did it for me.
He made the drive dynamic, Then he formatted it, then he changed it to a simple drive all done. Took him around 5 minutes.
Thank you all for the advice.

No probs Brian gad t got fixed mind you it wouldn't hurt to keep the Wizard app onboard it is really handy and not for just partitioning

We were trying to help you protect partitions you didn't bother to tell us you don't want any longer.

Had you told us we could have told you to just keep clicking Delete in Disk Mgmt until it was all Unallocated Space, then create new Partition(s) as you wish.

There is really no need for 3rd party partitioning software unless you need to resize a partition to the left, or do a special operation not covered by Disk Mgmt like converting a Dynamic Disk to Basic - something you never had.

He has not changed any of the existing partitions. He used the unallocated space that I had made, changed that to a dynamic drive, then reformatted that space, then changed it back to a simple drive, nothing else on the drives was touched all still exists exactly as it was.

Sorry Greg I didn't mean to interfere I was just suggesting in my last post that the Wizard is a handy tool not just for partitioning

How can i partition about 400gb. I want to separate windows from my programs and personal documents. So in other words keep about 40gb for windows and the rest(400gb) fo programs and files. Max I can partition is about 200gb, using disk management.
