Installation and Memory

There have been more than a few discussions, regarding installation of 7 and problems from too much memory. Has this problem been resolved or is it something that I should be prepared for when I receive my upgrade disc on 10/22?

Currently using
Windows Vista Prem
6 gb memory

Rich

the only time too much memory might be an issue is on installation. Some systems seem to install better with abt 2gigs. Only pull it if you have a problem. 6gigs should do very nicely.

Yea, I don't think it's a "Windows thing" I think it depends on the hardware you have. Home premium has support for 16GB and pro and ultimate have support for 196GB so I don't think Windows is causing any memory problems.

Still some people having this problem. You can try it, some people don't have an issue with it. I installed Windows 7 on two computers with 4GB RAM with no problems.

To be cautious you might try:

Disconnect all peripherals except monitor, keyboard and mouse.
If more than one HD, disconnect all but the target HD. In BIOS or pull the cable.
If you have over clocked the RAM, CPU or GPU, return them to default. You can change them back after the install.

Backup your OS before starting.

Good luck.

It was a problem with Vista on some older Nvidia chipsets. I haven't heard of it being a problem with newer chipsets, any Intel chipsets, or Windows 7 in general.
