    Error message "BOOTMGR is missing" when booting directly into drive


    Hi,

    I just put together a brand new haswell gaming rig and installed windows 7.
    Long story short, I copied the contents of my windows 7 installation disc into an internal SATA drive (1600BEVT-22ZCT0) and installed windows onto another internal SATA drive (ST3160215AS).
    My problem is that in order to access the windows installation in ST3160215AS I have to boot into 1600BEVT-22ZCT0 and then select Windows 7.
    If I boot directly into ST3160215AS then I get the error message "BOOTMGR is missing".
    How can I fix this and boot directly into the drive windows is installed in (ST3160215AS)?

    I've tried the commands bootrec /rebuildbcd, bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot but they keep using the MBR stored in 1600BEVT-22ZCT0 without ever creating an MBR on the ST3160215AS drive.
    I don't have an optical drive on the rig and the only way I can transfer information to and from the rig is by removing the 1600BEVT-22ZCT0 internal drive and connecting it to my laptop.

    As the new MOBO's now have a uEFI/BIOS firmware.

    Isn't there any way I can create a UEFI Windows 7 Installation internal/external hard disk drive ?
    The links you posted only have pen drive and cd options

    Use a DVD or stick. You need it for repairs too.

    If you wanna try to make the current install boot independently, post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Help Forums and we'll see if the normal repair methods work for this with UEFI.

    I don't know why the MBR wasn't installing in the same drive as the windows installation.
    Maybe it was because of the fact that my mobo is a UEFI model; I really don't know.
    I considered setting up a UEFI Windows 7 Installation USB like theog said but I don't really have any USBs
    At the end I just created a new MBR using EasyBCD and now I can boot directly into my primary drive

    There is no MBR on an UEFI install as it formats the HD GPT instead of MBR.

    That's why we needed to see your Disk Management screenshot first. If it would boot with the other HD plugged in then you should be able to access Disk Management to Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Help Forums.

    If you used EasyBCD to move the Boot files to the new install then you weren't installed in UEFI at all, must have set it to Legacy Mode in BIOS. But EasyBCD is not the most thorough way to move the boot files to an MBR format HD since it amongst other things it does not hotlink the Repair console to the F8 Advanced Boot Options.

    The most comprehensive method to do this developed here and used countless thousands of times is to mark the new Win7 partition Active, unplug the other HD to run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times so that everything is included including the Repair Console.

    Glad you got it booting. If you still want to post up the screenshot we can look it over for you.

    Thanks greg no i'm good already setup everything on windows.
    I checked ASUS's website to look for info on UEFI and apparently the motherboard BIOS had errors with the XMP button and other system stability issues.
    There's an option in the BIOS to run in UEFI or Other OS modes maybe it just kept it in other os regardless of the option you pick.
    I just installed the newest BIOS revision hopefully that'll fix the installation problems in the future.
