Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit freezes during install

I just got the windows ultimate 7 64 bit disc from Microsoft the other day. I have been trying to install it on my computer and everything goes well until the second reboot. At this point the computer freezes at the windows 7 splash screen. The 32 bit version installs perfectly without any problems. My specs are

    amd athlon x64 2.4ghz
    nvidia geforce 250gt
    8gb ddr2 ram 800hz
    asus m2a-MVP mobo
using on board audio at the moment
    thermaltake 850watt psu

Hi and welcome to seven forums

One thing comes to mind right away. so lets start with that. Have you tried a safe boot? repeatedly hit F8 when booting and see if it freezes at the same spot. If it doesn't It possible points to a video driver which you can install in safe mode.

Let us know how it turns out

    thanks

Ok well now the computer gets to the second reboot screen and then freezes. I tried to boot in safe mode but it will not let me. It says that the computer needs to finish installation first, from there it restarts the computer and freezes at the splash screen again.

    Probably graphics card

I just finished installing W7 and it had hung after the first proper reboot, before I coud put in the product key. After reading many suggestions, teh one that worked was to do the F8 thing and boot into 640x480. It worked. Then one of the optional updates to windows was a graphics driver for my card.

    RAM issue

I saw your post and signed up for an account just to reply because I have the same mobo and had the identical issue - and it drove me crazy.

Installed 7 and then it hung on "Starting Windows" with the little logo lights doing their thing. I left it there overnight thinking that it was still installing stuff... believe me it's not.

My solution was related to RAM, although I haven't any idea as to why yet (I was actually researching why when I stumbled upon your post).

I added an additionaly 4GB stick of ram to my existing 2 1-GB sticks before upgrading to windows 7 (DDR2 800). Something about that was not right; my motherboard bios only recognized 2 GB of it.

It let me install but didn't let me past that screen you're stuck at.

I removed all the new RAM so i was left with the original 2GB; installed windows 7 and it booted up just fine.

I then went back and installed the additional 4GB of RAM after I had a working install and restarted - got a BSOD that disappeared immediately. So then I tried booting with just the 4GB module and it worked fine...

    So:
    - Works with 2 1GB sticks
    - Works with 1 4GB stick
    - Doesn't work with 2 1GB + 1 4GB all together.

mobo still only recognizes 2 GB of RAM even with the 4GB stick - maybe I need to upgrade firmware? But Windows 7 works.

Hi there I have had the exact same problems you encountered, installing win 7 ultimate 64 bit! My specs are similar
    Amd athlon x64 2.6 ghz
ge force 9800 gt 512mb Gddr3 ( pci express slot)
    4 gb ddr2
    asus M2-AVM

I tried installing the 32 bit version of windows 7 ultimate and that works with 4gb (in 2 slots)
But with 4 gb when I install w 64 bit win 7 os it hangs at the starting windows screen!
But is the strange thing when I remove the 2 gb of ramand go with just 2 gb it runs fine and installs fine so I dont know what to do ??? It makes no sense ? Steve

    Hey!

It is same to me! Install freeze...removed video card, usb etc what was suggested, then ram ...
    i have 2*2gb ram and my win7 is 64bit.
If i run the system only 1 module ram it works and if it runs with 4gb its restart or freeze at hte windows logo.

Is there anything to fix this or we have to go back to vista?

    Hello everyone,

i've tried to install Win 7 ultimate 64 bit and it "freezes" just at the final stage under completing installation. The system is restarting and just after i pass the "windows starting" page i recieve a black screen and i can wait for ages and nothing happens. I've tried several solutions that i found on the web: to unplug any USB connections except the Key, tried to enable the AHCI and the usb controller inside the BIOS and non of those helped. My system Spec is:

    Intel i7 920 2.66 MHz, s1366
    Asus P6TD Deluxe s1366 Core i7, Intel X58, DDR3 1333, 3xPCI-E
    3x2GB Corsair XMS3 Triple Channel
    Zotac GTX 275 896MB 448 bit
    Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM, 32MB, SATA II
    CoolerMaster V10
    Antec Twelve Hundred

the frustration is extremly high at this point, any help to solve my problem will be much appreciated.

    Robert.
