From XP to WIN 7

HELLO,I HAVE AN acer aspire one NET BOOK,WHICH HAS WIN XP,BUT I NEED TO MAKE IT WIN 7,ACCORDING TO WIN 7 UPGRADE ADVISER I CAN MAKE IT BUT I NEED THE KNOW HOW

don't know if its 32 bit,i think so,so i need to know some basic and understandable steps on how to format and install win 7 on this machine,which win 7 is siutable,all i can work with is with my external hard disc or with my CD/DVD drive from my desktop PC.

if i decide to partion the c drive,what benefits are as it is a 1 hard disc?
i mean as in my desktop pc i have 2 drives,separate as if something happens as irreversible on the c drive all data in the second drive wont be lost,so on a single drive if partitioned i will loose everything in a possible drive fault?

You can shrink XP using free Partition Wizard bootable CD to install Win7 on another partition to see how it runs for you. Be sure to boot the Win7 installer to choose the space you shrunk to make a partition and format it, install there.

If you later decide you want to get rid of XP we will help you safely remove it.

Refer to the tips in the Reinstall tutorial in my signature pic below to understand how drivers are handled in Win7 which is not at all like XP, and the tools and methods which work best with Win7 and will assure you a perfect install. Ask back any questions.

You can create a bootable thumb drive to use to install or you can use an external USB DVD drive. Here's an article that talks about using a thumb drive: Install Windows 8 from a USB Stick

Just yesterday, I took one of them and installed Win 8 on it. Installation went very smooth and everything worked right out of the gate, didn't need to hunt down any extra drivers or anything. Win 8 boots very fast and runs great on the little netbook.

I am literally on one of those Netbooks right now. It does run pretty smoothly, but even some of the most basic things like videos overheat the thing and it lags. I really need to upgrade to something better.

Possibly. I might try that and see if that helps at all. But really, I could use alot more processing power, and more RAM never hurts. Plus, it is a little too small for my taste.

You want to save XP to see how Win7 works first, correct? Another option is to save a Macrium Reflect image of your XP install externally so you can boot the Win7 USB installer, delete all partitions to get the cleanest install.

You can write Partition Wizard CD ISO to bootable flash stick using Universal USB installer, then boot it to resize XP by as much space as you would like to install Win7 upon.

The latest official ISO for Win7 installer and tool to write to USB flash stick is in the Reinstall tutorial below. Read it over so you understand how to get a perfect install, even for retail.
