Install win7, then SP1 or slipstream?

I'm about to put a system together and install win 7 pro x64. I was about to slipstream SP1 and subsequent updates in, but then remembered how MS set users adrift by not providing a repair install method for those of us who don't have a win7/SP1 retail DVD.

Has this situation changed? If not, would the best method be to install win7 then windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe, then allow updates so that SP1 could be uninstalled in the event a repair install was required ()? Or is there an install iso that can be downloaded free of charge to be used for existing installs?

Where did you get Win7 Pro?

If the problem is that your installer doesn't have SP1 then you can download the latest official ISO for your licensed version from Step 1 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to use with the Product Key that came with it.

Hello again, gregrocker. This is exactly what I hoped for. Also, nice tutorial. It's later here now, but I've bookmarked it for later perusal. Thanks for your help.

edit: My Win7 pro was one of several I bought just after (or was it just before?) its release. Best buy was selling copies for around $49.
