So basically if I own Windows Vista and own the upgrade I can skirt around installing Vista and just do it with Windows 7? If so this would be awesome. It's legit?

    Yes, the workaround is here:

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

    or

    http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/cle...rade_media.asp

It is the same one given out by MS tech support.

1 more question. Am I getting any less of an OS by simply using the upgrade disc only? It may seem like a dumb question.

It is the exact same installer as the full retail version. Only the key controls what version you get.

When you get it up and running to your satisfaction, use Win7 backup imaging to create a backup image which you store externally and you will never have to reinstall again, just reimage your HDD (or a replacement) in 15 minutes flawlessly.

I'm currently running the Win 7 beta build 7100, do I really need to do a fresh install from a beta build? It already feels like I have Win 7 (with the exception of my big ol' Linksys router bug in this build)

I meant to also say that I did want the retail for the support etc, I just wish I could 'update' what I've got on my machine instead of a fresh install?

Yes, especially with the 7100RC it needs a clean install because there were tons of monitoring software taken off by MS.

Boot from the Win7 installer, use Custom>Advanced tools to wipe the drive and clean install. The installer will allow an Upgrade when it scans and sees the RC at bootup.

It isn't ever reccomended to perform an upgrade...especially if you are upgrading a BETA version to a RETAIL version

uninstall windows 7 then clean install windows 7

Ive had some issues after my windows 7 install because of my own incompetence most likely. Ive been looking around for rememdies and a clean install seems to be the way to go. I had windows vista 64 bit and upgraged to windows 7 64 bit. How do i uninstall windows 7 then do a clean install from there. My windows 7 is an upgrade version. I still have my vista copy of windows. Any help will be much appreciated
    Thank you

You should have no problems, any of the methods in our tutorial here work:
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
just boot from the upgrade DVD, enter custom setup... format the HDD and continue install afterwards. Of course assuming that you have backed up your data first.

If you havent backed up yet, read our tutorial on using EZ Transfer:
