Install W7 Retail Copy to New PC?

Hi all, been a good while since I last posted.

Anyway been having lots of PC breakdowns, had to reinstall, etc, etc. but problems keep happening. Tried all the usual methods to get PC working properly, but just keep finding new problems, be it software or hardware related.

I have a retail copy of W7. So my questions are:

    1) Can I install W7 on a new PC with the Retail Disk? or

    2) Can I switch my W7 Hard Drive to a New PC, and boot from it, thus saving all my files, pictures, software, etc, etc?

Look forward to your replys. Kind regards, Algypalgy

    Hello Algypalgy,

Yes, you will be able to reinstall and activate your retail Windows 7 to a new computer.

Personally, I would recommend to back up anything that you do not want to lose, and do a clean install to start fresh. You'll most likely just have more issues trying to run a Windows 7 installed on one PC on another.

    Hope this helps, :)

If you move the HD to a new PC and it won't start Win7, then you can also use this method to Make Windows 7 bootable after motherboard swap

But first make sure you have a perfect install on tested hardware as described in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 (same for retail) with the hardware tests run from Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.
