    Cannot Boot From ISO DVD

I posted earlier that I screwed up and installed the wrong version. I installed and activated the 32 bit student download when I needed the 64 bit. I went ahead and purchased the 64 bit version but now I'm stuck and can't install it. I went ahead and followed the instructions for creating an ISO file DVD but I can't get my PC to boot it. I get the error message:

    Windows Boot Manager

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause...

Is there something I can do to remedy this situation? I did the student download and did not purchase the discs. I'm really wanting to load the 64 bit version on this machine and use the 32 bit version on my laptop. Please help!

My PC does support the 64 bit version. My previous windows was 32 bit Vista but I'm wanting 64 bit Windows 7 to run on it. I purchased the wrong version and installed/activated it then downloaded the 64 bit version but it won't work. I called Digital River to see if they could help me. They refunded the money for the 32 bit version but told me I'd have to call Microsoft for help with the installation. I called Microsoft but they told me that they aren't supporting the Digital River downloads and I would need to contact Digital River.

Someone in another forum stated he gave up trying to make a bootable DVD and made a bootable Flash Drive instead.

You do have the DVD set to boot first, and are you hitting a key to do so?

There are tutorials about how to make a bootable DVD.

As I see it, you have two problems. Making a bootable DVD or Flash Drive, because you are going from 32 to 64 bit and running the setup.exe from a 32 bit system doesn't work. Secondly, you now have a Windows 7 install which may not be eligible for an upgrade version of the software.

What instructions did you follow to make a bootable DVD? I will look at them and ask questions about how you did it.

My dvd drive is set to boot first. I don't have a 4GB flash drive. I have a 300GB external HD and a 2GB flash drive.

I followed the instructions that I found on the forum for making a bootable ISO from the student downloads.

When I try to boot I'm getting the following error message:

    Windows Boot Manager

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and click "Next."
    3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Try booting the DVD in another machine or remake another one. If the system is working as it should, the DVD should boot no matter what the hard drive is doing, if the DVD is bootable, you have it set to boot first in the bios and you hit a key when asked, or just hit a key during the startup to see if you are just not seeing the DVD message.

Maybe you could list the boot options you show in the bios to see if anyone notices anything wrong. Go to the boot section under boot priority or something like that.

If this is a laptop, is there any type of specialized recovery system that might be intervening in the normal process since it sees a problem with the system and tries to recover it.

And if you can't get it to work, even after talking with the laptop maker, maybe try a new hard drive.

It not clear exactly where your at now.

Can you fill in you system specs, so we can see what hardware you have.

How many OS do you have installed now?
Are any of them able to startup?

How did you burn the DVD? Briefly describe the steps you used.

Which ISO burning software did you use?

At what burning speed and with Verify checked?

Do you get the Windows Boot Manager error all the time or just when trying to boot from DVD?

With some more information we can try to help.
