I'm repairing a laptop for a friend. their laptop is a Toshiba that they purchased from BestBuy.

Pressing F6 (i think it was) during boot would open up to a pre-boot diagnostic menu that runs out of an X:/ drive.

A myrid of small programs are available at this screen including a DOS prompt.

I used this to run a chkdsk on C drive as you can not do that while booted.

This X:/ partition is a Pre-BIOS enviroment and is built into the computer.

I know this is old, but thought this may help, and at the same time help me. I too, have the X: but it seems to be my Blu ray drive that is somehow partitioned off? Was having an issue with a bad SSD drive, and I noticed after messing around with that SSD that I now have Windows files on X:, which in my BIOS shows up as my Bluray drive. I show that I have 2 Bluray drives in BIOS when i only have one. Does this make any sense?
