A strange problem: screen turns off, then on

My wife has a very strange problem with her Windows 7 desktop: the screen will switch itself off after a while, which is expected and wanted, but it the immediately switches itself on again. Can this be caused by a program she has installed? And is there a way to easily figure out which one?

Does it say "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" after the screen restarts?

No, it just wakes up; as soon as the screen goes to sleep, it wakes up. No errors, no messages.

The screen goes off according to the time on energy settings?
I mean, imagine that your energy settings tell your display to stand by after 5 minutes of idle time and what's happening is that it goes off after one, that means that what's turning the display off it's not windows itself. Could be a program, could be the display drivers, could be many things.

    Can you please check?

pedrotairum: Yes, exactly, it falls asleep as it is supposed to, that is not the problem. The problem is that it does not stay asleep, it immediately wakes up again. It is something that has started happening recently, after the system has worked well for a long time, so it is probably something she has installed by clicking yes when she shouldn't have.
derekimo: thanks for the tip, I will try that when I have an opportunity.
