    Questions about post W7 upgrade

    Hi all once again.

On my laptop i have a limited amount of HD space i currently have 37 gb free of a 160 gb drive. After i upgrade to W7 is there any way i can delete my old vista files? and if so where would they be located and is it safe to delete them?

If you do a custom clean install, your Vista system is transferred to a folder called windows.old, located in root of the C: drive.

This folder contains not only the Vista system files, but also your personal files and folders as well as those of other users of your computer plus the program files and folders you had installed on your Vista.

If you have backups of user files, you can then safely delete windows.old folder; though it also contains the software files and folders of your Vista setup, you have to re-install all the applications and software so these files are (almost) useless.

If you are doing an in-place upgrade installation, the Vista setup is replaced by Seven setup. In this case all your installed software and user files and folders are usable after the installation thus no need to delete before the installation.

You can delete them prior to upgrade and then do a clean install with the upgrade disc. You have to make a small change to your registry, info given previously in this forum, and do a clean install.
