With Ubunto, you will 'enjoy' the Grub. I would install Ubuntu in a VMware Player virtual partition. Makes it a lot easier.
And as was said, OSX is a no-go.
Here is a tutorial I once made for the installation of Zorin (an Ubuntu derivative) in VMware Player. It may be helpful.
