Replacing windows 7 help on an Asus

Do not despair I have windows 8 on another machine but I need ubuntu. The easiest way I can do this is by replacing windows 7 on my old netbook. I have tried 3 different usb sticks and an sd card with the ubuntu.iso on it but it does not get recognised. I have changed the boot priority in Bios but nothing is picked up. I have tried different versions of the ubuntu.iso file. I have tried everything I can think of.
Please would anyone be able to help?
I have verified all the usb and sd card ports are working but do not get picked up when booting.
Anyway any help at all is most welcome.

Why would you want to replace Win7?

If nothing else helps, try this. The example is Zorin but the procedure is the same for Ubuntu.

VMware Player - Install and Setup Zorin

You can also install Ubuntu on the flash drive itself - like this:

Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS
