    Black screen w/ blinking cursor

When I try to boot from usb I get a black screen with a blinking cursor. I've tried to set the boot order to have the usb first. I made the windows 7 installation setup with wintoflash. I tested the usb with two other computers and it works perfectly. I'd try my DVD drive to install the windows 7 but my DVD drive is no longer working.

Are you sure the DVD drive is faulty? Try a linux live CD and test. boot order in BIOS is correct?

You get the blinking cursor just after BIOS flash screen?

Yes, after the gateway logo appears, then the BIOS, then a black screen with the flashing white underscore.

I tried a lucid puppy, BARTPE, windows 7 repair, UBCD, and the window 7 install.

Is it the same when booting from DVD? If not... what happens when you boot from DVD?

Nothing, it boots to the next device because the DVD drive isn't working. It can't read any dvd I've have.

So DVD drive isn't working. Harddisk has problems... you want to reinstall. All bootable USB's don't work.... also the linux stuff? Maybe try another usb port (?)

I've tried the usb ports in the front and the back.

I've also tried using another HDD, created a partition enough for a window 7 install, set it up to be booted from, but even that gets the black screen with white cursor.

If I can boot into windows, could I try to re-install it on my SSD through my USB? because I can see the USB when logged in, but it when booting from USB it gets the black screen.
