Well I had a quick Google in the meantime mate and hitting the WIN button + L before you shut the lid will do this as the feature was not built into Windows until 8 - I know this is correct cos my laptop I converted (upgraded) to 8 does exactly this.
I shut the lid leave and after opening it again I have to login

Personally I would go mucking around with addon software but the choice is yours of course.

Hum will have another scratch around then there must be some reg entry that has this feature on the machine that does it and we could find it - possible the entry could be changed to the entry of the one that works .
The only thing I ma thinking is perhaps the other machine is a different brand?? and maybe a feature of that. I am only going down this track cos I just do not like software I really don't know enough about and have been caught so many times with search bars and all that crap.

But in any case this is what you should do with all macjhines and especially after an install.

BACKUP THE REGISTRY

Start > type regedit > right clickon blue reference in start column > Runas administrator > click on File> click on Export > Save > name it whatever you please plus the dateand to where ever you want and OK .

It takes about a minute and I usually do this straight aftera clean install and the machine is running ok. I save to documents as a rule anda stick.
