Nah, when the CPU overheats, the system will shut off automatically. You will know then. But I have 7 year old laptops where I never changed the paste and they still run fine. Working on a laptop is very finagle and you really have to know what you are doing. You are liable to make more damage than good.
OK man thanks a bunch I had mine pulled apart all the way one time
Fixing a broken usb port and I cleaned it out clean as well
Its spotless I did my girlfriend laptop 2 hers is the older
Toshiba equilibrium ones great machine .just though maybe a
Wee bit of a new great quality CPU paist would help last longer.
Thanks buddy il just let it go until it shuts down. Its great
If it would stop before it got 2 hot allright

Unless your CPU is overheating, I would not touch it.
OK thanks dude no overheating but thought it would be
Good 2 do it on a 3 or more year old laptop.with all the
Use it gets. I just thought when it overheats it would be 2 late is all
No I would leave well alone as WHS says as mate it will shut down if it overheats.

What you can do is to check the air intake aperture and the "rad" and to do that shine a very bright light into the fan aperture and look through from the outlet grill
    1. You will see if there is a lot of dust in the fan intake and fan blades and 2. you will see if the "rad" is blocked in any way when you look through from the outside.

Now to clean you can blow the dust out using compressed air but first make sure you insert something into the fan blades before you do - to stop the fan from spinning as spinning the fan with air will cause it to spin at much higher revs than it was designed for and can wreck the bearing.
The rad you can use those chenille wire play things to very gently clean the rad from outside the machine and again blow the dust out. It is fiddly but effective.

Now if you are really intent on doing the compound on the Toshy let me know and I can give you a link to take it apart and few tips on the process. From experience no mean feat on the first attempt and my four year old L550 took me about four hours to do and you have to be very careful with the ribbon cables for example.
To be honest I only took it apart to put a faster CPU in and then changed my mind and the compound was still ok from the factory install though I did use a better compound than they use.
I found that an SSD was the best thing I ever did with the machine - if you can afford one it is the go. I noe run it with 8.1 in a 7 style and it is lightning fast as opposed to the original set up.

Joseph sorry late reply mate just make sure the Toshiba wifi driver is up to date mine is fussy too on a wifi adaptor.

I bought the upgrade 8 and put it over the 7 install and kept my settings and then when 8.1 was available I just downloaded it as it was free.

To make it 7 like you just need one of the softwares that do that I used Stardock8 ($5) on the laptop before I found out about the Classic Shell (free)
Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements and just downloaded the orb Start button and changed it form the scallop shell shape that program comes with. There are loads more if you look in the 8 forum (same folks as in here for the most part - me too) Start Menu - Restore in Windows 8

In my pic you will see the small filter I have put over the air intake it is really effective - just some sheer curtain material held on with duct tape.

If you stay with 7 for while this is very good to use too.

Hmm I don't know about a "stronger" wifi card Joseph maybe a new one as I am no expert on those particular devices I cannot advise. To get it out this will give you a rough idea but it does say do not disconnect the antenna cables without removing the display panel.
How to disassemble Toshiba Satellite Pro L450 and Satellite L455 laptops

Now I don't know why that is as I am not sure of how they are attached to the card which you can see is sitting there in the same spot as the memory sticks. If they are screws I am guessing it is just matter of undoing them and reattaching a new card.

BUT BEFORE you do anything with this guide make sure you read and thoroughly understand the very first page of the guide as it deals with the ribbon cables and their fixings that are very fiddly and easy to mess up.- http://www.irisvista.com/

Now the other thing to keep in mind is that if you order parts for a Toshiba you will need to quote the PART NO. found on the bottom of the machine you need to do that as it denotes where the machine was made and which region it was intended to be sold at - see my pic. Same goes for info on Toshibas.

I agree Joseph unless the thing has been exposed to excessive heat which it probably hasn't then I think you might be limited by it's capabilities mate.
