Running Win 7 64bit on 2 E5440 with different stepping problem
Hello, I purchased another Intel Xeon E5440 processor with all parameters identical (or so I thought), but when I tried to boot, I got this error:
I was sure, that this is incorrect, so I tried removing the old and running only with the new processor (to be sure that it works fine) and windows booted perfecly fine.. So I started to search a little and now I see, this has also been a problem of Vista, but there was a fix for this problem on Vista.. Win XP don't have this problem and run perfectly on this 2 processors..
The problem is on many sites (on dell forums, microsoft forums and tens of others), but i found it best described here:
Multiprocessor Configuration Not Supported by Windows 7 - Microsoft Community
It's about the stepping - both processors must have the same stepping fow Windows 7 to be able to run on this workstation. But Vista already have a fix for it, and Win XP 64 never needed any fix - both processors work fine on XP...
Is there a fix for this problem already, or is it too late (Win 8 beeing out and all...)
Thank you for any info!
