Sysprep win7 install error

Did you boot once with new mainboard? I mean did it try to boot from sysprepped disk and crashed?

Did you see one or more of this screens when booting after sysprep? If so, which did you see?

When the error appears you can press shift+f10 and a "command prompt" appears? Run REGEDIT and browse to key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion. Do you see "setup.exe" in the right part of screen. What's its value?

Set the value to 3 and power off. Install the new mainboard and boot.

Two questions...
1. Why did this happen? (As mentioned I have my old motherboard in now and am leery of running sysprep again when I have to install my new MB)
2. I would like to compensate you or SF for your time and expertise. What is the best way to do this?

Give me a paid job to compensate me ;-) Being unemployed for almost 3 years now.

I don't know why it did happen. But is it running fine now? If you don't want to do sysprep again: Make Windows 7 bootable after motherboard swap

Up and running. With new mainboard installed? Check device manager for "other devices" and missing drivers.
Uninstall Device and Device Driver for devices no longer attached to system. Uninstall associated software as well.

1. Install all of your device drivers, then Windows Updates.
2. Refresh your Windows Experience Index (WEI) score.
3. When done, all you will need to do is to activate Windows 7.

That error message tells that computer (Windows) was not correctly shut down after the sysprep had finished.

When generalizing with sysprep in order to replace hardware or move the Windows image to a new computer, as I assume you did, you need to use the /shutdown switch with sysprep.

Correct syntax for generalize command is:

sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown

After giving this command, sysprep runs and shuts down Windows. You need to replace hardware now, before booting the PC again.
