With all due respect Kathy, starting another thread will only lead to yet more confusion by even more people getting involved.

This thread will continue to run in every direction with although helpful comments the barrage of ideas are even leading to more confusion.

I mean no disrespect to those helping but this thread needs one lead and as AddRAM has taken that role can we just let it try and stay on course.

Indeed, I don't mind re-posting all the prerequisites he needs to get going. I did post an outline in post #46 beginning from a clean slate using DVD method, with step #2 containing links to where he can get the required materials.

OP can disregard the queries about licensing for while, we can deal with the activation once the OS has been installed firstly.

No problem, derekimo. Last time I checked though, it was Slartybart assisting OP with the upgrade disc method. I am unsure what happened to that approach.

Hopefully, OP gets to doing what he intends to do.

I`ve taken the lead again, Thank you

But he`s done for the nite.

I totally agree, when he has finished doing what I asked in post #207, and reports back success then we can get rolling.

Thank you Kathy, just trying to keep this on track.

Yes, I`m dying to know why his upgrade disc doesn`t work ???

What I want to know is, will his activation key from his upgrade media ( if it actually is an upgrade disc ) work on a clean install done with a separate dvd or by flash drive.

Can someone give me a for sure answer on that.

But he used the term Acer only upgrade disc and now that he`s wiped the drive, the disc will no longer work, which was mentioned way back in what now seems to be an eternity ago.

And if indeed that`s the case and he wants to have a fully legal and activated computer, he will be putting Vista back on it. Which he probably doesn`t have a dvd for either.

I will write it out again: The Acer Vista-to-Win7 Upgrade Kits are an OEM retail copy of Win7. I have two of them. It will not require doing s workaround from Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
for when you install Upgrade version to a wiped HD. It should accept the Product Key during install.

I wlll repeat this again since apparently a video I posted earlier is not sufficient: Put the DVD in the drive, reboot and tap repeatedly the F10 key until a boot menu appears. Choose DVD drive. If you're prompted to Press Any Key to BOot disk then do so. If you're not prompted to do this then burn a new ISO to disk.

I'll link the ISO again for the fifth time: Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download

Burn to DVD using ImgBurn 2.5.7.0 - FileHippo.com at 4x speed. Try again with the F10 key.

If this fails, install UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive which always works. Follow the illustrated steps, Press the Format button first, then Write.

Plug the flash stick in, reboot PC, tap F12 key, choose USB stick to boot.

Good news: I managed to get the Windows 7 upgrade disc to work afterall.

Bad News: I still have the same connection problem.

I just wanted you all to know before I go to bed. I'm not sure what I wanna do yet, but it seems it might be worthwhile to try and resolve this connection issue. Not unless installing the disc with the Hard Drive as my 3rd device is enough to sabotage my connection.

I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd sneak in early to post, looks like arayof1 figured it out - good job.

You were only a few minutes away form installing with the Acer Win7 Upgrade disc when you asked the boot order question. After that you decided to follow the lead of another member.

I'm really glad you decided to return to the path you were on and used the Acer Upgrade disc along with the tutorial. I'm really, really glad that you got to the end of the install, phew!!!!

You now have a legal Win7 OS on your machine (not a torrent download used in the 1st install on this thread), but there's still some work to do.

1) install network drivers (Ethernet & Wireless)
You have them on flash or the external drive, so you do NOT have to download them
I didn't see where you posted that you installed them, so that could be the reason you don't have connectivity.

2) Windows Update until nothing is offered by Windows Update (WU)
It's easier I think if you run WU manually
This is crucial to do before worrying about anything else (except getting to the network)

Kudos to you, arayof1 for your sheer determination and perseverance under some fairly alien conditions. Lots of new terms, new tools, new tasks, new people... I remember the first time I followed the tutorial - it just seemed weird, things I never had done before. It was cool too because everything was well described (to an old techie).

Get some sleep young man. I have to take my wife to work.

Bill

Nope, having the HD 3rd in the boot order would not affect your network connection.

arayof1 you have done well here to get your w7 installed. As Bill, myself and others have said you must install your network adapter drive(rs) manually. This is what allows you to connect to the net.
