Download the Realtk 8185 driver here

Since I've been putting this post together, download ONLY - do NOT install yet.
I need a little time to read recent posts

Choose the UI Package and Driver (Support XP/Vista/Win7)

Reminder: Until he has Optional Updates he doesn't even have the drivers Win7 wants. These were to be the first things installed after the reinstall.

I''d at least check for Updates to see if what's queued.

Fair enough we'll use the WU driver for the Realtek Wireless device. That will make Greg a happy man.

Tick the Realtek driver on Windows Update.

    Only the Realtek Semiconductor Corp....
You can finish the other optional updates later.

There might be some updates that are not optional that will get pulled down as well. That's fine

and go ahead - update windows

While Winodws is updating, I want to look at the Wireless network configuration.

We know that the SSID was changed by the ISP tech.

Okay, I was just prompted to choose my home network and the internet icon in the system tray changed from a computer screen to a five bar icon. I assume that means the wireless adapter is receiving a signal. Should I unplug ethernet and restart pc to check it?
