Got new HDD, installation dilemma

Hey guys
I recently installed Win 7 Pro that I got as a student. It is the upgrade version. Everything went smoothly.

I want to upgrade my HDD as the old one is too slow. Is there anyway I could install it on the new HDD seeing that there would be no operating system to upgrade and thus it won't accept the upgrade Key. Also I used the key once, would I be able to reuse it with the new install?

Thanks guys

Welcome to Seven Forums, mackdaddy187.

See this tutorial and the note under Option One - basically, you CAN install to a blank HD - Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

If there is a problem activating it, just call Microsoft and tell them what you did. They will be able to give you a new key.

How about just doing using Windows Backup to make an image and restore it to the new drive. You can change the partition sizes in Disk Management afterward.

I know it sounds weird but I like to have clean installations. It's just something at the back of my mind when I work on the computer. I know nothing will go wrong with your method but it is just a computer superstition.
