    Taskbar icon spacing

Under Vista I had 6 or so icons in the Taskbar at the lower left. The icons were nestled together in a tight bunch--out of the way. However, under W7 and using small icons in the Taskbar, the OS seems to be placing open space borders on each side of each icon resulting in a relatively huge footprint for each icon. The result is that 2 icons take up the same space that 6 did under Vista. Is there something that I'm missing that will get rid of all this wasted 'air' space between the icons?

    Thanks,

It looks like you are talking about quick lanuch in Vista
Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

As for the spacing...that is the default spacing in Windows 7...and I haven't yet seen a way to change it

Please use the Win7 snipping tool to post a snip of the offending task bar.

I don't know about the spacing you describe, but the buttons are supposed to be square true buttons with multi-function l/r click & hover, more like a static rocketdock which can dock any program/utility, so Vista does not compare.

Yes the buttons are square and yes you can right click them but the real estate that the buttons consume is what I find problematic. I was hoping to at least find a way to have them stack upon themselves and expand up or down upon hover--
