    Windows failed to start

I am reinstalling my Win 7 Pro computer as I get freezes and occ BSOD in my system that is ~3 yrs old. My system is on a 1 GB drive and the new system is being built on an identical drive on a SATA slide in connector on the top of my Coolmaster case. My plan is the build the new system by disconnecting the old drive and installing Win 7 on the new drive on the top of the computer case. If I need to I can disconnect it and reconnect the old drive. It seem that when I go back and forth between the 2 drives I get the following error messages and have to do a windows 7 repair to boot into either drive after a switch. The SATA connectors are different for each drive and they could be connected at the same time but I haven't done that to avoid confusion (or problems).

Can someone explain why I'm getting the error?

Can you plug in both drives, set preferred OS HD to boot first in BIOS setup, trigger other OS HD when needed by using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key? This avoids having different SATA controllers confuse Win7.
