Endless Loop

There have been several comments in this forum that a problem has been encountered while installing Windows 7, ie process fails, then starts again in an endless loop.

I am still waiting for my copy of Windows 7, due tomorrow. I am wondering, since, I am not going to change partition size, or delete any partitions, I can boot from the hd and still do a clean install. Do you think that this will reduce the possibilty of my encountering the dreaded endless loop?

Welcome to Windows 7 Rich.
Refer to the top of the forum for installation tutorials.
As suggested success is achivable by copying the disk contents on to a partition in C:\ drive, making the partition bootable and running the installation.
For further information refer to the Sticky's at the top of the forum.

Windows 7 x64 finally!

Rich, I wish I could respond for sure, but many of those cases either go unsolved or have different reasons for it to happen.

Take a look at this sticky, it contains several things that can be sources for installation problems: Questions to use for help with Installation Issues

In your case, if it fails I would start by trying to install with only one memory stick and without the graphincs card (if you have onboard graphics). In any case, a clean install is the recommended way to go, so that is a good start.

Good luck and let us kknow

I feel that the problem may have been caused by an error on the part of the computer owner. I know, I have two options, regarding booting from the DVD. I can set my computer to boot from the DVD once or make it a permanent change. If I make it a permanent change, any error that is encoutered that will make the computer shut down and then reboot, will cause an endless cycle. I bet this is the primary reason for the problem on a clean install.
