No luck installing windows 7

Hi First time poster. I am trying to upgarde idealy from vista 32bit to Windows 7 64bit. My pc is well up to spec. i even uninstalled all software recommended by the adviser.

I bought windows 7 home upgrade on saturday, I have been trying since to install it.

Basically every time i try it gets so far and my pc just freezes (no dvd or HDD activity. Cursor wont move). i have even left the install over night in case it unfreezes.

I have tried -
32bit upgrade with from vista, After the reboot from the freeze i get a message stating install failed and vista has been restored.

32bit and 64bit clean installs. Usually hangs at expanding files.

I have tried removing 1 stick of ram and trying .

I have removed all usb, including keyboard and mouse (using old ps2 ones)

Please help, im now out of ideas.

Is it worth trying to take the Dvds back to the shop?

A

are the dvd's from microsoft? 85% of install failures are from bad dvd and dvd players.
Thins you can do to improve your chances.
Unplug anything not critical leave just keyboard, mouse, monitor. Make sure you have "LESS" ram 2 gigs top. If you are overclocking stop. If you have a raid get the driver.

hope this helps and tell us if you need helps with any of this

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes the disks are genuine MS windows 7 home upgrade.

Everything but what needed to boot up vista is disconnected (printer, ext HDD etc).

Not overclocking and i just have one 2gb stck of ram installed. No raid.
