THat Acer can most definitely run Windows 7 and run it well.

You bought a retail copy which means you get MS excellent tech support. I have found in the past that this can actually be more valuable than the price paid for the OS.

Acer may have been saying that they don't support Windows 7 since they support it's install only if you got a free Upgrade from them when you purchased. You paid for MS support here when you bought your Windows 7 retail at Best Buy.

Call MS with the number on the disk. Let us know how their support goes. They spend a fortune on it.

Alright but i'll tell you what did acer sent me

your system does not qualify for the windows 7 upgrade.

Please be informed that Acer does not support changing an Operating System. Changing the Operating System may cause driver conflicts. You have the option of upgrading or changing your Operating System at your own discretion. However, it is preferred that you keep to the original configuration of your system so that all the programs and applications in your computer will recognize all the hardware installed in it.

Although we will still support the hardware of the system, we will not be able to support the new Operating System. We can still support the functionality of the system with the new Operating System. If the support reaches the point of suspected hardware replacement/repair vs. Software support for the hardware, you must reinstall the original Operating System and drivers before the part can be replaced/repaired.

Im pretty sure Acer doesnt actually make the computers themselves, but thats neither here nor there.

After the clean install did you try running start up repair a few times?

But id go with what Greg said, ring microsoft, what you wrote was just a disclaimer.

This bloatware enforcement is really getting out of control. All Acer is doing here is trying to veer you away from replacing their bloatware with a clean install, since the sponsored bloatware accounts for most of their profit margin now. They won't support the OS but will continue supporting the hardware according to your warranty.

Previously manufacturers would provide a clean install disk and support its install; I believe Gateway/eMachines (just bought by Acer - uh oh!) still do, possibly Dell. But that is changing as the profit margins tighten and sponsors want their bloatware kept on machines as much as the manufacturer can control it.

You might need a set of recovery disks in case you ever have to restore your computer to factory specs to sell it or get them to help you. However, any Vista disk will replace the Vista so you could even wait if you dont' have them until there is some rare case where you gotta have the bloatware back on there to deal with them about some issue.

Well boot into the install disk Repair console to see if it finds the installation, then try startup repair. Let us know if it offers it up to you when you first click "Repair my Computer"

I wasn't flipping you off at first, I'm just a big fan of MS Tech support after getting a full education in reinstalls, troubleshooting, optimizing and debugging with the price of an XP Home retail disk. They spent several overnights with me on the phone, and I got to know one guy so well we still go skiing in Idaho.

Can you boot into Safe Mode with Networking?

If you can try doing a driver rollback for your VGA card or update your ATI drivers on the ATI website. The Black Screen could be an indication that there might be an incompatiblity issue with the VGA driver.
