Windows 7: Can I use my laptop Windows 7 code elsewhere now I bought Windows 8?

Just to clarify:

1) You are trying to Clean Reinstall the licensed OS on the laptop which is Win7 Home Premium Japanese language, correct?

2) Then you want to input the Ultimate Anytime Upgrade key to unlock the English Language pack again?

3) And: you have tried reinstalling Home Premium English and it will not activate with the Home Premium Japanese key on the COA sticker, correct?

4) Sometimes if you call back into MS Support you will get the help you need. Have you tried that?

Please answer each of the questions above while you wait for SIW2's help with your box files.

Peculiar.

Did you Unblock the .zip before you unzipped it?

Rt click the .zip file >properties>Unblock>Apply>OK.

or you can copy smv.exe into your windows\system32 folder. Cmd should find it there.

That ISO in the screenshot has a double file extension, ".iso.iso", not sure if that is a problem or not...

Well spotted. He needs to take off the second.iso.

However the main issue is that cmd.exe can't find smv.

Correct. but i cannot get an ISO of Windows 7 (in Japanese) without paying Windows 8.1 prices.

Correct.
The Key probably only works with the Japanese version (but its another Microsoft secret for now).

Tried a hundred times. Including full re-installs.

Yes.
After I gave them all the details, and told them what I think the problem is, Microsoft eventually admitted the English W7 Home Premium ISO kicks up a Product ID that does not match the Japanese Windows 7 home Premium KEY (on the back of the laptop).
Thus it is language locked.
Microsoft told me I cannot have the software I have paid the license for and if I want windows 7 Home Premium, I should get it from Toshiba.
Then after I pointed out that the laptop is out of warranty, and told them Toshiba had said `they will not supply it` `and told me to go to Microsoft for it`, Microsoft Japan just said they `don`t supply it` and put the phone down on me.

I called Toshiba again (told them what Microsoft told me ect), and they said they dont supply/upload/sell ISO, nor do they provide/sell boot-Repair discs to anyone, especially out of warranty; and they told me to go back to Microsoft for the windows 7 Home Premium (unless I want to send the laptop to Toshiba, and they will replace my SSD with a standard HDD with Windows 7 Home Premium on it for $350).

$350.
For my copy of Windows 7 Home Premium I already should be able to get as I already own the license. Its the two companies shirking accountability and leaving every customer in Japan in the same position in a "Catch 22" position. Because people here very rarely complain about anything ever. I was on the phone around 2 hours with Microsoft and two half-hour sessions with Toshiba trying to find a solution (not just for me).

They both know about the issue for a long time; and both of them do nothing about it. I had the same question with them last year when Windows 8 came out (I bought the first copy), when I stuck it on the same laptop instead when this issue again arose for me. But would like to use the DSP? Win8 on my new home-built back-up work/gaming desktop PC now.

Done a couple of times now.

Anyway, its the principle of the thing that bugs me.

Note how fast they get the lawyers out if someone shortchanges them.

Just "Unblocked` (I wouldn`t know to Unblock something I dont know is blocked [I gave up clairvoyance decades ago] ), am in process of trying that. ISO re-copying across (replace).

Edit.

Got the
Same error.

Headache.

I saw the 1kb `command Script` was for 32bits (not x64); not sure if thats a reason ?

I dont know what file to assicoate the Japanese .svf file to now, as it is now stuck on opening with windows media center (I am not able to find the path to the UnRAR program I installed [someone/something on google told me to try that instead]).

Don`t worry if you ran out of ideas; I am sure far better paid people at Microsoft planned that.

Let's try to keep the focus on what we can help you with and not ancillary issues as annoying as they are.

There is an ISO which will activate with the Product Key on the COA sticker now. What is the exact version listed on that sticker?

You think that it is not activating because it is English while the licensed version is Japanese? This is why you want to obtain an Japanese Home Premium ISO, correct?

Then we will help you get the Japanese ISO, do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums and help you see that it gets activated.

Why do you assume the Anytime Upgrade Product Key will not work once you get Japanese Home Premium on the PC, since that is what you had before when it already worked?

Please work with SIW2 to get your ISO compiled and loaded onto a DVD or flash stick. He is my teacher and will not let you fail if you persist.

Since Win7 beta we have helped repeatedly in these types of cases and have never come up short if there is cooperation and focus to get it done.
